How To Stay Ahead of Hair Loss With Best PreventionMost people tend to panic when they first notice their hair thinning on top, however the good news is that there are treatments that are effective in slowing down and in some cases preventing hair loss. The most common cause for hair loss is hereditary and the likelihood of it increases with age. Alopecia is a condition that causes hair to fall out in patches, also known as male pattern baldness. It develops when the immune system attacks the hair follicles, resulting in hair loss. Speaking to a doctor who specialises in hair loss is the first step before starting any treatment.

Growth Factor Therapy is commonly associated with trauma care and wound healing, however it is also an effective treatment for prevention of hair loss. Growth Factors are natural substances in the body whose purpose is to stimulate the growth and proliferation of cells in the body that heal and repair. In this article we explain the hair growth cycle and Growth Factor Therapy for hair loss prevention.

If you suffer from hair loss, answer these 3 questions to discover the best treatment option for you.

How Hair Grows

Hair growth occurs in 3 stages:

  • Anagen: is the active phase of new hair formation and growth. The rapidly growing hair pushes the old hair in the follicle out as it grows. Hair on your scalp stays in anagen for 2-5 years. Most of your hair follicles (80-90%) are in anagen at any given time.

  • Catagen: is a transitional phase where growth stops and the outer root sheath shrinks away from the follicle wall and attaches to the root of the hair shaft. This phase lasts for 2-3 weeks and about 3% of all hair follicles are in this phase at any given time.

  • Telogen: is the resting phase and lasts for about 100 days for scalp hair. The follicle is resting during this phase and it is during this time that hair can be either pulled out or shed. Around 10-15% of hair follicles are in telogen at any one time.

Hair Loss Prevention

There are various options when it comes to hair loss prevention, such as medicated shampoos, oral tablets and PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Therapy, also known as Growth Factor Therapy.

Minoxidil (Rogaine) is a foam or lotion that must be applied twice daily to help slow down or prevent hair loss. It is known to irritate the scalp, making it itchy or inflamed. Finasteride (Propecia) is a pill that can slow hair loss but needs to be taken indefinitely as once you stop, hair loss re-starts.

An alternative to daily lotions or pills is Growth Factor Therapy or PRP Therapy. Growth Factor Therapy featuring Factor4 uses the body's own cells to promote healing and stimulate hair growth.

The benefits of Factor4 include:

  • Treatment is once a month vs daily or twice daily
  • 100% natural, no side effects
  • Minimally invasive vs traditional PRP
    • Factor4 is done by combining fractional skin needling and Growth Factor Therapy whereas PRP is injected into scalp.
  • More effective than traditional PRP
    • When combined with fractional skin needling, all the weak hair follicles on the thinning scalp are reached and treated. The smaller platelet size of Factor4 allows for it to be absorbed into the scalp more efficiently and avoids invasive subdermal injections.

Growth Factor Therapy featuring Factor4 can be used to strengthen hair follicles as well as rejuvenate dormant hair follicles and trigger the growth of new hair.
