Some are born with it, but most notice it progresses with age; a receding or set-back hairline can really impact a man’s appearance, often adding years to perceived age. Let’s take the famous actor, Jude Law, for example. His hairline has made headlines for years. In 2013, his hair was noticeably sparse on top, but just a couple of years later, he sported a much denser do. Was it a hair transplant or just some clever hair dressing?
We share our top 5 tips to hide a receding hairline, and hopefully knock a few years off perceived age. If you suffer from hair loss, answer these 3 questions to discover the best treatment option for you.
Top Tips To Camouflage A Receding Hairline
1. Add Texture & Style
It’s not how much you’ve got, it’s what you do with it. Style is everything. Adding texture, like a salt spray can add volume to the hair you have, without weighing it down. Using a matte clay, plus a little length (but not too much) will allow you to style your hair forward, and give it that messy style. Never use gel, never comb it back from the hairline and never, ever go for the comb over.
2. Retain What You’ve Got
Firstly, understanding the cause of your hair loss is key to preventing further loss and retaining what hair you’ve got. By far, the leading cause for male pattern baldness is genetics. Androgenetic alopecia, or male pattern baldness, accelerates the normal hair cycle and over time, the follicles stop producing hair completely.
A hair loss expert can give you a correct diagnosis and recommend treatment options to prevent further loss. In some cases, medication is the first course of action. It won’t help hair regrow, but can help prevent further loss.
3. Encourage Regrowth
Just like you add fertiliser to the garden, you can add fertiliser to your scalp to encourage growth. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy uses growth factors from your own blood to “awaken” follicles and stimulate regrowth. Blood is taken, spun in a centrifuge to separate the growth factors and then injected into the treatment area using microneedling.
Alternatively, our hairline redesign using the latest microsurgery hair transplant technique offers a permanent, life-changing result in a single day.
4. Hairline Redesign
For men who have a noticeably set-back hair line, the increasingly popular Direct Implantation technique “hairline redesign” can be used to create a completely restored, aesthetically pleasing hairline that will continue to grow for life. To correct the hairline, follicles are taken from the back or sides of the head (hair that is resistant to loss) and are delicately transplanted to the new hairline, to seamlessly match the direction and angle of the surrounding hair.
The same delicate microsurgery technique can be used to transplant follicles to a thinning or bald crown, or the top of the head that is subject to hair loss.
5. Cut & Run
For some men, completely embracing their oncoming baldness is the decision they make. It takes guts and a bit of getting used to but no hair equals no hairline and hence the problem of a receding hairline no longer exists. For many, the cut and run strategy is not so appealing, and for those, we recommend booking a consultation with a one of our hair restoration experts to discuss the various and permanent treatment options available.
